Summer in Bomba is lush and beautiful. Rays of sunshine warm the beaches, cliffs and peninsulas. What seem like endless pine forests can be seen from atop the green fells, with the shimmering surface of Lake Pielinen on the horizon. Meadow flowers bloom in the fields, and a white blanket of arctic starflowers dots the forests.
Blueberries will soon ripen. Rabbits, foxes and roe deer play in the forest. You can hear the cry of a black grouse and the song of a Siberian Jay in the distance. You are experiencing the atmosphere of Finnish national epic, Kalevala.
The waves of Lake Pielinen roll onto warm cliffs and white sand. The wilderness lake is constantly changing – hazy in the evening, calm during the day and wavy in the morning. Pike perch appear on the surface, as Pielinen is a fish-rich lake.
